Amazon launches low-cost grocery delivery service for Prime members in the United States
Amazon has launched a low-cost grocery delivery service for Prime members and customers using EBT cards in the United States. This subscription plan allows Prime members to enjoy unlimited grocery delivery services for $9.99 per month and provides a free one-hour delivery window. Low-income citizens using EBT cards only need to pay a discounted subscription fee of $4.99 per month to enjoy the same benefits. This is part of Amazon's expansion into the fresh food business
According to the Zhitong Finance and Economics APP, in order to expand its fresh food business, Amazon (AMZN.US) has launched a low-cost grocery delivery service for Prime members and customers using EBT cards in the United States.
This subscription plan will allow Amazon Prime members in over 3,500 towns in the United States to enjoy unlimited grocery delivery services for a monthly fee of $9.99 when ordering from Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, as well as various local grocery stores and specialty retailers on the Amazon website for orders over $35.
The plan also offers free one-hour delivery windows, unlimited pickups within 30 minutes for orders of any size, and priority use of recurring orders for weekly grocery orders.
Low-income citizens using registered EBT cards to apply for government supplemental nutrition assistance programs can enjoy the same grocery subscription benefits without being Prime members, by paying only $4.99 per month for a discounted subscription fee.
Prior to this, the subscription plan has been successfully piloted among Prime members in Columbus, Ohio, Denver, Colorado, and Sacramento, California by the end of 2023.
This plan is part of Amazon's expansion of its fresh food business. Retailers Walmart and Target also offer similar paid membership plans, with the former's "Walmart+" plan charging $98 annually. Target's Circle 360 membership is only $49 for the first year, offering unlimited same-day delivery and other benefits
